Please forgive me, as this may seem heresy to some to adjust the recently infamous song BLESSED….but in this devotion, I just want to point out something. Everyday, when we wake up, and leave to go to work, church, etc., we remember to do one thing….WE CLOTHE OURSELVES!! Now I know I cannot get away with going to work or church in dirty clothes(or no clothes hehe). So we have to clean ourselves, and dress our physical man in order to make ourselves presentable and acceptable. I believe Johnson uncle has addressed the issue of dressing up and looking presentable a few times.

I am taking this same concept, and applying it to the spiritual realm.

Ephesians 4:21-24 says this….”If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.”

Isaiah 61:3 talks about putting on the garments of praise for the spirit of heaviness.

Isaiah 61:10 says “I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh [himself] with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth [herself] with her jewels.”

There is more scripture to reinforce what I am going to talk about, but I’ll leave it at this. I want to ask you folks this…

When we were saved, we were made a new creation, and the old man was passed away. All things became new between us and God….there was only one problem: Even though we changed, and we had God with us now, our circumstances did not change, nothing in the natural changed!! We still had to put our pants on one leg at a time, eat, take care of our responsibilities and any issues before salvation. God told Moses in Exodus 19 to make the Israelites clean themselves and their clothes for two days, and on the third day present themselves to God.

Many times, our clothes get dirty from living in this world. We may fall back in our old ways, and go back to sinful tendencies that we use to have. Paul asked the church to PUT THE OLD MAN OFF….TAKE OFF THE DIRTY CLOTHES!! Repentence is the shedding of your old man, acknowledging the fact you are dirty, and preparing yourself for the change!

Then he instructs them to be RENEWED IN THE SPIRIT OF THEIR MINDS….In the natural, we take a bath or a shower to clean ourselves off….Ephesians 5:26-27 talks about being washed with the cleansing of the Word in order to present ourselves blameless before God. We know that Jesus is the Living Word, and by His blood we are made righteous. We need to remember to stay cleansed(renewed) by NOT ONLY studying His Word, but living according to it, and letting the Word of God be your delight.

After you have cleansed yourself, then naturally we clothed ourselves with good, clean clothes. Spiritually, WE PUT ON THE NEW MAN!! Like Esther, we have to go through our cleansing process and clothe ourselves in the royal garments, intended for every child of God living on this earth, in order to prepare ourselves to meet the King!! 🙂

I just encourage you all to take heed to what the Spirit is saying to you personally, and put off the stuff that is holding you back from living the life God has called you to live!!
